Viola Visnjevac
Biography
Inspired by her Southern Ontario surroundings and
by her circle of friends, Viola shares her joy for life through
her paintings. The majestic tranquility of lakes and charm of
Ontario towns mingle with memories of the Old World as they are
presented to us in Viola's paintings.
Holding a master degree in electrical engineering,
with expertise in project management, Viola works in the IT department
of one of Canadian major banks. The daily project governance work
gives way to the evening strokes of the brush playing on canvas
and speaking to us.
Viola is a member of the Don Valley Art Club, Toronto.
Many of Viola’s paintings are in private collections.
Artist Statement
Since my teen age, I was interested in art, but my
obsession started when I visited the National Gallery in London,
England. What
impressed me most were the J. M. W. Turner paintings. What is magical about
them is the way Turner uses colors, irregular strokes and strong contrasts
between light and darkness to create a dramatic atmosphere. I can certainly
say that he inspired me and, now, you can find drama in most of my
paintings. Often, I use strong contrasting colors with light “peaking thru
darkness” and bold strokes to create feelings about a certain atmosphere or
event, rather than to paint them realistically. I enjoy painting landscapes
as if they were seen through windows. This highlights the main story in the
paintings and focuses viewers to it. As media, I use acrylic on canvas and
mixed media.
